Company Profile
Company Overview
Ceregene, Inc. is a private, San Diego-based biotechnology company focused on developing growth factor treatments for major neurodegenerative disorders using gene delivery. Founded in 2001, Ceregene has a highly motivated and efficient team of about 50 employees led by a seasoned management team, Board of Directors, and Scientific Advisory Board.
Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease are the result of specific cell loss in the brain. Scientific data demonstrates that this cell loss can be prevented by gene-based treatments that deliver specific neurotrophic growth factors to the central nervous system. Ceregene’s gene-based vectors deliver naturally occurring neurotrophic factors, or proteins, that slow or halt the neurodegeneration that underlies neurological disorders.
Ceregene has already brought gene delivery products for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases through pre-clinical development and into clinical trials. Ceregene also has research programs investigating therapies for other neurodegenerative disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), retinitis pigmentosa (RP), age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and Huntington’s disease.
The combination of research, product development and clinical expertise and proprietary position will allow Ceregene to develop its gene-delivered growth factor treatments into a commercial reality in a broad range of human diseases.
