The University of Utah is located in Salt Lake City between the 12,000 foot Wasatch Mountains (snow, skiing, hiking, fishing, camping, climbing, biking) and the first of many high desert basins that form the western sagebrush desert. Salt Lake City has a population of approximately a million people, with one of the most vibrant environments in the nation: Four seasons, art, cuisine, culture, coffee, classic neighborhoods, and grand sunsets, all placed next to the Great Salt Lake, one of North America's greatest migratory bird flyways. An international airport puts the west coast but 90 minutes away - without the traffic. Culture includes the Utah Symphony, Ballet West, a vibrant jazz and alternative music scene, a large number of theater companies, experimental film. The Sundance Film Festival takes place annually in Park City, a half hour's drive from campus. There is a vibrant dining scene with numerous coffee houses boasting al fresco patios; great sushi restaurants; cutting edge and classic cuisine; all in a family-friendly and single-friendly community. The Red-Rock and canyon country of southern Utah (5 hours away) is unparalleled in its beauty. The state is homes to five National Parks and less than a days drive from five others in Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. Utah boasts the largest continguous areas of wilderness in the U.S. outside of Alaska. The fusion of cosmopolitan Salt Lake and Utah's environmental grandeur is unique in the US.

Company History

In 1979 the Division of Ophthalmology at the University of Utah was a one-person operation consisting of Randall J Olson, M.D. In 1982 the division was
accorded departmental and Dr. Olson has now served as chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences for 25 years. In 1993, the first John A. Moran Eye Center was constructed and served as a nexus for
expanding vision research, ophthalmic education, community outreach and cutting-edge ophthalmic care. More space was soon needed to accommodate
this dynamic growth and Dr. Olson began a drive to build a new eye
center. The Campaign for Vision successfully raised $36 million thanks to our donors and friends, including a generous $18 million gift from John Moran. The new $54 million, 210,000 square-foot research, clinical and surgical facility was completed in 2006 and now houses our still-growing research team.
