The Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) is the national research institute in ophthalmology and vision science in Singapore, and one of the leading eye research institutes in the Asia Pacific region in terms of quantity and quality of peer-reviewed publications. Serving as the research institute of the Singapore National Eye Centre, and directly affiliated to the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, as well the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School, SERI undertakes vision research in collaboration with local clinical ophthalmic centres and biomedical research institutions, as well as major eye centers and research institutes throughout the world.

SERI has a staff of 130 and an annual budget of $5million, and conducts all aspects of clinical, translational/applied and basic research in ophthalmology and the visual sciences. Our focus areas of research include myopia, ocular stem cell research, ocular surface disease, diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, ocular imaging, epidemiology and clinical trials. In the 5 years, SERI is undergoing a major exciting re-development and will have available more than $30million injection of new research funds, state of the art facilities, and faculties. Eye research in Singapore is on par in terms of recognition and importance as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes.
