Description
We have an opening for a full-time postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Wendy Liu, MD, PhD in the Department of Ophthalmology at Stanford University to conduct collaborative projects in vision research.
Position Description: Our laboratory is interested in studying the role of mechanotransduction in the retina and related technologies, including ultrasound neuromodulation and sonogenetics. Questions we are interested in studying include: 1) What physiological roles do mechanosensitive ion channels play in the eye? 2) How do we leverage mechanotransduction for neuromodulation? We are actively developing translational therapies for glaucoma and neurodegenerative diseases based on our understanding of these questions.
The successful applicant will lead a project investigating the role mechanotransduction in the retina. Relevant techniques include 2 photon calcium imaging, retinal electrophysiology, ultrasound neuromodulation, sonogenetics, rodent microsurgery and animal models of glaucoma and other ocular diseases.
The postdoctoral fellow will be joining a young lab with exciting opportunities to make discoveries that intersect ophthalmology and sensory neuroscience. Mentorship and career development is a strong focus and there will be opportunities for grant writing, manuscript writing, and presenting work at national meetings. Current postdocs have successfully applied for individual postdoctoral fellowship awards.
Highly motivated candidates with expertise on techniques such as single cell RNA sequencing, eye and brain histology, electrophysiology, calcium imaging, neuromodulation and animal handling experience are encouraged to apply.
Requirements
Completion of PhD or MD training. Previous experience in vision or neuroscience research is ideal
